Footprint reference
A footprint is the screw-and-lug pattern on the underside of an optic. A slide either has that pattern milled in, or an adapter plate supplies it. Diagrams are schematic and not to scale: top-down, optic front at the top.
Before you torque anything
Screw length is the failure mode nobody catches. Too long and a screw bottoms out on the slide or reaches the striker channel; too short and it strips under recoil. Test-fit dry, count threads, and use the screws that came with your optic or plate, not whatever is in the parts bin. Blue threadlocker, never red, and let it cure before firing. A plate raises the optic, which can drop suppressor-height irons out of the window.
