About this reference

Optic Mounting answers one question for 178 pistol slides and 77 red dots: will this optic mount to this slide, and with what. Here is where the answers come from, the rules they follow, and what is not on file yet.

Where the data comes from

• Pistol makers: which footprint a slide is cut for, which plates it takes, the screw thread and the torque, from the maker's manual, product page or plate list.
• Optic makers: the footprint, and the window size, weight and battery. 49 of the 77 optics name the maker's page each figure came from, linked on the optic's page.
• Plate makers: 168 adapter plates and mounts, 115 of them linked to the maker's own listing. Where a plate maker publishes its hardware (thread and torque), the build sheet quotes it; where it doesn't, the page says "not on file here" rather than guess.
• Sight makers: co-witness heights only where a sight maker publishes them for a named pistol and optic, attributed and linked on the page that uses them.

Each of the 13,706 pistol and optic pairs is worked out by one resolver from those facts. The fit checker, every pistol, optic and pair page, and the build sheets all run the same code, so no two pages can give different answers.

The rules the data follows

• Nothing changes without a source. A correction lands only with a maker's document, a plate maker's fitment chart, or a first-hand report with measurements. Every change is in the changelog.
• A page says when it was last checked, and what was not. The date on a pair page is when its facts were re-checked against a maker's document, and only a re-check the changelog records counts. Whatever has none says it was compiled once and not re-checked since.
• Thin or conflicting data is flagged, not smoothed over. Entries marked Verify (8 slides today) are ones where published sources disagree or say too little. Open questions wait on a maker's word before the answer changes.
• No factory sight height per model. It changes between production runs under one model name. A pistol maker's own statement about its sights is quoted and linked, never restated as ours.
• No screw length table. The right length depends on the whole stack: slide, plate and optic. The build sheet gives the thread and a way to work out length from your own measurements.
• Prices are bands. Approximate street prices checked September 2026, for comparing routes, not for budgeting to the dollar.

What is not on file yet

Said plainly, because a gap you know about is safer than one you don't:

• 30 of 77 optics have no window size from their maker on file, and 22 no weight.
• 53 of 168 plates have no link to the maker's own listing.
• 25 of 178 slides have no screw thread on file, and 135 of 168 plates no plate thread. The build sheet says so rather than guess.
• Most plates' own torque: the build sheet says "per plate maker" for those.

Who compiles it

The data on Optic Mounting is compiled and maintained by the site administrator. Every fitment answer comes from the sources named above, and every change to the data is dated in the changelog with why it was made. The site is a reference, not a gunsmith: see the disclaimer.

Independent, and how to correct it

Optic Mounting is not affiliated with or paid by any pistol, optic, plate or sight maker, and no listing is paid for. If something here is wrong, the contact page takes a correction; every page has a link that fills in which pistol and optic you were looking at. Say how you know, and it goes on the list to check against a source.
