New to red dots? What footprint, plate, co-witness and the rest mean

Screw thread trapSpringfield's Hellcat manual calls for M4 × 0.7 optic screws, and says a screw must not stand more than 2.4 mm (0.095 in) proud of the bottom of the optic. Same slide cutThe Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro, Springfield Armory Hellcat RDP and Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro Comp OSP share this slide's optic cut (Springfield Hellcat OSP cut (Micro footprint)), so the optics, plates and screws below are the same for all of them. What differs between the models is under "On this model", where there is anything.
How this slide mounts an opticMilled for what Springfield calls its Micro footprint, the Shield RMSc pattern: an RMSc-pattern optic, Springfield's own Hex Wasp included, bolts straight on. A Holosun K optic takes a plate: C&H says its plate is what lets a 407K or 507K go on without modifying the slide's recoil posts. Iron sights that co-witness

Typical co-witness by optic type; figures published for this slide are below, with their source.

Sight heights published for 3 optics on this slide
Swampfox Sentinel II
  • Night Fision · lower 1/3 · front .248 / rear .268 in
Holosun 507K X2
  • Night Fision · lower 1/3 · front .248 / rear .268 in
Holosun EPS Carry
  • Night Fision · lower 1/3 · front .248 / rear .268 in

Heights are front / rear in inches, as each sight maker measures its own sights. That's not a deck height, and it doesn't compare across makers to the thousandth. Absolute puts the front sight level with the dot; lower 1/3 and lower 1/5 sit it lower in the window. A sight maker sells a handful of fixed heights, so optics of similar height share one set: the same figures under two optics are the maker's chart saying so, not a copy.
